Additionally, she also launched a consulting business that teaches others how to become online educators, which allows her to diversify her income and business offerings.
Idea Behind Company
Jade's entrepreneurial journey began with an "ah-ha" moment when her daughter asked to be homeschooled, making her re-evaluate her side job as an online tutor. Initially, Jade thought traditional teaching was her career path, but she quickly realized she could use her online tutoring skills to support her family while also homeschooling and traveling.
She realized that teaching online allowed her to work fewer hours while making more money than she ever could in a traditional classroom setting. Her first business, Ashantae Academy, later rebranded as Teacher Jade’s Writing Academy, was launched as a solution to meet the demands of the growing homeschool community.
The success of her courses came from the flexibility she provided in terms of teaching schedules, lesson plans, and pricing options. Her personal experience as a homeschooling parent helped her understand the specific needs of homeschool families, which allowed her to design courses that were both practical and engaging. After a year of traveling abroad and teaching online, she saw her audience grow and re-focused her business on scaling through digital platforms.
Launching the Business
Launching Teacher Jade's Writing Academy started with listing courses on Outschool, a platform for online educators. This provided her with a ready-made audience and drastically boosted her income, allowing her to shift from multiple small side jobs to focusing exclusively on the academy. Outschool’s setup enabled Jade to develop her own curriculum, set her prices, and build a consistent teaching schedule, which led to significant growth.
The launch of her second business, a consulting service for online teachers, was more challenging. She initially hired a digital marketing agency to help with the launch, which failed. However, Jade regrouped by hiring independent specialists for branding, SEO, and content creation. This approach helped her create a successful Masterclass that teaches others how to create and market their own online courses.
Earnings
Her consulting business has also become a strong revenue source, with the Masterclass priced to reflect her expertise in the online education field. Jade’s future financial goals include expanding the academy to offer a full English curriculum and scaling her consulting services to include additional training in marketing and advertising, helping her clients achieve similar success in the online teaching space.
