Idea Behind Company
The idea for Natural Forces Massage originated from Timothy’s passion for physical therapy and helping people manage pain. His interest began in high school, inspired by his mother’s back surgeries, which fueled his desire to offer pain relief without invasive procedures. After graduating from massage school, Timothy worked in various clinics and recognized the significant impact therapeutic massage could have on clients' well-being, particularly in avoiding surgeries and promoting recovery.
One notable experience was when Timothy helped a client avoid shoulder surgery through targeted massage therapy. This instance, among others, inspired him to open his own clinic where he could help more people and hire like-minded therapists. The support of his wife McKenna, who had a business degree, played a crucial role in transforming his dream into a reality, giving him the confidence to pursue his goal of owning a massage clinic.
Creating the Company
Timothy’s journey to opening Natural Forces Massage began with a series of bold moves. In 2014, he left his previous job and started treating clients from his apartment, building a small but loyal client base. With McKenna’s support, they took the leap to open a full-fledged clinic, even moving in with her parents temporarily to save money. Timothy secured a small business loan and found a space to rent at a local hair salon. This first location allowed him to begin building out the clinic while serving his existing clients.
Over time, they sold their house to afford the clinic’s initial costs, such as massage tables, equipment, and furnishings, which totaled between $10,000 and $15,000. After operating out of the salon for a year, Timothy expanded to a larger location and hired additional massage therapists. The clinic was up and running by 2018, and the Turnbows could finally see their dream becoming a reality.
Launching the Business
Launching Natural Forces Massage involved creative marketing strategies and community involvement. A friend helped Timothy build a professional website for a discounted price, which gave the clinic a strong online presence. Timothy also utilized Google Ads and review platforms to attract new clients, while focusing heavily on word-of-mouth referrals and client reviews. They incentivized customers with raffle tickets for leaving reviews, and this strategy led to a growing number of positive testimonials.
Timothy and McKenna also leveraged social media by creating a Facebook group for their clients, allowing them to stay engaged with the clinic. This community-driven approach helped build customer loyalty and attracted new clients through referrals. Their close relationship with a neighboring chiropractor also proved beneficial, as they cross-promoted each other's services, bringing more clients to Natural Forces Massage.
