Idea Behind Company
Stephen's passion for art and graphic design inspired the business. He began his career as a graphic designer for a cardboard box manufacturer but started Fruity Llama as a side hustle with his wife to generate extra income. Initially offering logo and leaflet design through Facebook, they soon realized they wanted more control over their lives and decided to turn Fruity Llama into a full-time digital marketing agency. Inspired by successful entrepreneurs on YouTube, they decided to transition from their day jobs to grow their side project into a full-fledged business.
Creating the Company
The decision to go full-time with Fruity Llama required months of planning and preparation. Stephen and Stephanie dedicated evenings and weekends to building their website and business processes while still working full-time jobs. In November 2021, they officially registered Fruity Llama as an LTD company, set up social media accounts, hired an accountant, and prepared to launch the business. By early 2022, Stephen left his job to focus on Fruity Llama, though the transition came with self-doubt and a challenging eight-week notice period before he could fully commit.
Launching the Business
The official launch of Fruity Llama marked Stephen’s departure from his job. The website began attracting customers within two months, with the first clients coming from LinkedIn and networking efforts. Fruity Llama operated without loans or credit, relying on savings from the couple’s previous graphic design services. Stephen reflects that attending more networking events pre-launch could have helped boost initial interest, but their focus on personal outreach and strategic online presence enabled them to gain traction.
Earnings
Three months after officially launching the business, Fruity Llama was turning a solid profit. The company hired its first remote employee to assist with website design and development, meeting key milestones from their business plan. Fruity Llama is now focused on expanding its team, hiring SEO specialists, and continuing to grow its clientele. Stephen’s long-term goal is to have a full team of employees within the first year and establish a physical office for client meetings, driving future growth through ongoing networking and outreach efforts.
